Roosevelt, Utah barrel racer Kimmie Wall qualified to her first WNFR last December and is on the verge of possibly making it two years in a row. The mother of two has devoted most of her time over the last few years to the road and chasing her dreams aboard 9-year-old TKW Bully Famous Fox By Design aka "Foxy". "Foxy" is a tad naughty but has the grit and heart of a true champion, explains Wall and she credits all her success to the mighty little mare. With the summer run just around the corner, Wall is kickin' it in California hitting all the big west coast rodeos in hopes of seeing her name climb in the WPRA World Standings.

FloRodeo- Tell us about your time spent in California during the California run.
Wall- I absolutely love California. I started out in Red Bluff and that was a disaster. "Foxy" was being naughtier than usual and she was bad at the gate. That was very unlike her so after Red Bluff we devoted a week to working on horsemanship and pattern work.

How many years have you been going out to California?
I have been coming out here for four years. I have some wonderful friends out here that let us stay at their place, so it is easy to relax and catch our wind in between rodeos. My friends out here have played a huge part in my success in California. They come to every rodeo and cheer me on. I am so grateful for that because it is hard being away from my family but when I have friends like the Kelley Family, it helps make it easier!

Was this the first year you have won Clovis?
Yes! I am so incredibly grateful for the runs I had and for the effort that "Foxy" gave me. I felt like the comeback kid after our terrible showing in Red Bluff!

Tell us about your runs in Clovis.
Well I drew up better this year in the first round than I have since I have been coming to Clovis so I think that was an advantage. This was also the first year that I have done so well in the first round. Usually I just sneak in to the qualifying round but this year I tied for 7th in the first round. I was ecstatic!

In the second round, we had another good run and ended up placing 9th. Going into the short round, I knew I needed to just ride sharp and let "Foxy" do her job. We ran the fastest time of the entire rodeo, a 16.80, and won the short round and the average! I couldn't have been prouder of "Foxy"!

Explain to us how important it is to have a strong mental game and not let the trivial things get to you.
It is extremely important to have a strong mental game in any sport. I remind myself to not stress or dread on the things I can't control and let every bad run go and prepare for the next run. There is always another rodeo.

Being out the road most of the year, it must get incredibly difficult being away from your family. Tell us about that.
It is very tough and I miss them every day. I have a 14-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son. My kids and my husband are my backbone and my greatest support system. This time of year, is the hardest because I am so far away from them and they are very busy in sports and school activities, so I am missing a lot. But if it wasn't for them, I couldn't stand to be out here. They keep me going and they pick me up when I need to be picked up. They remind me why I am out here and I am so incredibly grateful for their continued love and support!

It takes a village to keep going, who would you like to thank for helping keep you and "Foxy" on the road?

I have outstanding sponsors, friends and of course my family that help keep me on the road. My sponsors that I would like to thank are Cactus Saddlery, Cactus Gear, Dynamic Edge, Platinum Performance, Purina, Three Wise Chicks, Sore No More, Benefab, Ranchdress'n, Glam and Grit and Dr. Ben Espy.

Congrats on your win at Wrangler Million Dollar Tour Gold Rodeo in Clovis and best of the luck the rest of the season! We hope to see you and "Foxy" at the Thomas & Mack in December!
