How To Watch The 2017 Barry Burk Jr. Roping Roundup in Ardmore, Okla.
The 32nd Annual Barry Burk Jr Roping Roundup is taking place this weekend in Ardmore, Okla., and FloRodeo will be bringing you all the action LIVE.
In June of 1986, an idea became a reality as the 1st Annual Barry Burk Jr. Roping Roundup took place in the Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Oklahoma. A total of 165 entries from five states came together in this southern Oklahoma town to rope for their share of the more that $12,000 purse. Nothing but favorable comments came from the contestants and spectators; with everyone asking "Are you going to have another roping like this next year?" The enthusiastic response to the "idea of having a special calf roping for junior ropers" was overwhelming and plans began for the 2nd Annual Barry Burk Jr. Roping Roundup. The Hardy Murphy Coliseum was established as the Roundup's home and Memorial Weekend was designated as the annual date. The next thirty-one years brought the addition of the 19 & Under Girls Breakaway to the schedule. Because of the increase in the number of contestants, a second, and then a third, and now, four-day has been added to the Roundup's Schedule. This increase has also necessitated the change in the format to three go-rounds with a Top Fifteen short go. This year the winners will be qualified for the Roy Cooper Vegas Invitational. Also, the Roundup's schedule has been changed to make it more convenient for Jr High State Qualifiers. For the first time this year the Roundup will feature a 10 & Under Breakaway.
The list of winners from the Roundup includes some impressive names including: Fred Whitfield, Cody Ohl, Trevor Brazile, Tuf Cooper, Shane Hanchey, Monty Lewis, Caleb Smidt, and a whole bunch of pee wee and high school champions who are aspiring to join the ranks of those famous calf ropers.
This year the Alumni Tiedown is being replaced with an Open to World Tiedown/ RFD TV American Qualifier. We will again be having the "Open Ladies Breakaway" on Saturday afternoon.
The action will start Friday at 1pm with the Open Tiedown roping. The action will resume Saturday morning at 9am with the 19 & Under Boy's Tiedown roping. The Open Ladies Breakaway roping is set to start at 4pm and will end the day on Saturday. On Sunday, the event will start with Cowboy Church at 9am, and then the action will start at 11am with the 19 & Under Girl's Breakaway Roping, followed by the 15 & Under Girl's Breakaway, and the 10 & Under Tiedown will end out the day on Sunday. Monday's action will start at 9am with the 12 & Under Breakaway in the back arena, with the 13-15 tiedown starting at 11am in the Coliseum, and the 12 & Under tiedown roping will close out the 2017 edition of the Barry Burk Jr. Roping Roundup.
