The first performance of the 2017 edition of the Texas Cowboy Reunion is set to kick off tonight at 7:30pm in Stamford, Texas.

The first performance of the 2017 edition of the Texas Cowboy Reunion is set to kick off tonight at 7:30pm in Stamford, Texas. The slack for the 87th annual Texas Cowboy Reunion got underway yesterday, and there has already been champions crowned and fast times put on the board.

Over 600 contestants will compete at the 2017 Texas Cowboy Reunion in hopes of winning the prestigious title of "Stamford" and pocketing a good chunk of change. The performance tonight will feature bull riding, steer wrestling, bareback riding, tie-down roping, specialty acts, saddle bronc riding, steer riding, double muggin', wild cow milking, ranch bronc riding, barrel racing, and a second section of bull riding.

The team roping completed both rounds yesterday during the slack and crowned the champions. Justin Lovell and Boogie Ray were crowned the 2017 Team Roping champions for the Texas Cowboy Reunion. They each pocketed $1,125.36 for their average win. They also won 5th in the first round, which paid $261.93, bringing their total earnings to $1,387.29 each. The win at the Texas Cowboy Reunion won't only help them in the United Professional Rodeo Association (UPRA) and Stand United standings, but it also kicks off their "cowboy Christmas" with a bang.

The breakaway roping slack followed the team roping on Tuesday, and there were plenty of fast runs already put on the board. Alex Flautt leads the pack with a 2.70 second run. Ashley Goforth and Katelyn Melvin are tied for second and third with a 3 second flat time.

The barrel racing slack was held this morning and the fast times were plentiful. The top ten fastest times come back to the championship round on Saturday night. Lacy Schoenthal is leading the barrel race with an 18.420 second run. Nearly half a second splits the top 10 with an 18.918 rounding it out.
