A Delayed Start Didn't Decrease The Action At The 2017 NLBRAF
Day one of the 2017 National Little Britches Rodeo Association Finals (NLBRAF) was one full of excitement and chaos, but everyone worked together and pulled off a great first day of competition.
The start to the 2017 National Little Britches Rodeo Association Finals (NLBRAF) was full of excitement and chaos on Tuesday, but everyone worked together despite some inclement weather and delays to pull off a great first day of competition at Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK.
The queen's contest started on Sunday, so those ladies have had a busy few days already.
After the USTRC team roping on Tuesday evening, the Lazy E had completely re-do the arenas to set up for the NLBRAF.
The transformation was flawless, and the arenas were set and ready to go.
Tuesday evening kicked off everything with the mandatory contestant meeting and group picture. That will be one good looking group photo with some of the toughest youth rodeo competitors.
Tuesday night quickly got chaotic with inclement weather heading towards Guthrie. Contestants and families were advised to make preparations for the storm.
The inclement weather ended up taking a toll on some of the temporary stalls, and horses had to be relocated to the covered arena because of the damage and flooding.
Because of all the changes, damage, and relocation of horses, the first performance was delayed by two hours.
Repairs were made, sand was added to help with the water and mud, and horses were situated back in their stalls.
The performance started by a motivational speech by none other than Fallon Taylor, who always draws a crowd and provides enthusiasm and positivity.
A few other changes had to be made throughout the day to accommodate the later start, but by the time performance two rolled around, everything was lined out and rolling smooth.
The theme of day one at the NLBRAF was definitely red, white, and blue. The gloomy weather and rough start did not dull anyone's sparkle. We are excited to watch the action unfold as new champions are crowned this week.
