Another Rodeo Gained: The PRCA Sanctions Pikes Peak Or Bust

After an announcement this last week that RFD-TV’s The American would be sanctioned by the PRCA in 2019, the sanctioning body announced this week that it has gained another rodeo for 2018: Pikes Peak or Bust in Colorado Springs, Colorado. July 11-14 will now see the top 38 competitors in the PRCA standings plus the champions of the 2016 and 2017 Pikes Peak or Bust events compete for a minimum of $35,000 added per event.

Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Board of Directors President Jeff Renehan shared his excitement over the new development in the PRCA Press Release.

“We have a long history with the PRCA and we’re excited to see this next chapter unfold,” he told the PRCA. “We consider ourselves PRCA’s hometown rodeo and we’re proud of this. It is truly a win-win situation for us both. We can continue the championship format that our fans love, while our contestants can earn top prize money that will count toward the world standings, and their quest for the National Finals.”

Contestants will compete at the Norris-Penrose Equestrian Center in a tournament format where the best eight (the top two from each performance) in each event after four performances will face off in the shootout, then the top three will turn right around and compete once again to see who will win the $15,000 championship.

So what once was an independent, invitational event, will now add even more dollars to the 2018 PRCA rodeo season.
