$1.3 Million: The Numbers Of The Finning Pro Tour

It’s been one heck of a year on the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association’s Finning Canada Pro Tour that hosts the top rodeos in the association, attracting attention from the best competitors in both Canada and the United States.

“The Finning Pro Tour Rodeos are right smack-dab what I’m looking for when it comes to planning my rodeos out… those are at the top of my list as far as what I try to go to first before I go to anything else,” said Caleb Bennett, who has six WNFR and four CFR qualifications to his name.

Watch the Finning Pro Tour: Armstrong IPE & Stampede and the Finning Pro Tour Finals LIVE on FloRodeo August 29 to September 2.

For competitors trying to make the finals, rodeo is a numbers game. How many you can enter, how much you win, how many miles you can drive before the end of the season. All of the numbers will come down to one on September 2 – one finals, one run, and one last chance to earn big money.

Here are the numbers of the 2018 Finning Pro Tour:

$1.3 Million Purse

The Finning Pro Tour and tour finals puts up a purse of $1,367,008 during the CPRA rodeo season, making a huge impact for not only Canadian Professional Rodeo Association competitors trying to make the Canadian Finals Rodeo, but also Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association competitors vying for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

730 Tour Points

Barrel racer Carman Pozzobon has earned the most Finning Pro Tour points this season out of all the tour event leaders at 705 points. Pozzobon has been the steady No. 1 in both the Pro Tour Standings and the Canadian Standings for almost the entire 2018 rodeo season.

91.25 Points

The highest-marked bareback ride – not to mention the highest-marked roughstock ride overall – of the entire Finning Pro Tour season was Richmond Champion and C5 Rodeo’s F13 Virgil at the Ponoka Stampede. The pair danced to the tune of 91.25 points in the event’s famous “showdown round.”

9 Tour Rodeos

The 2018 Finning Pro Tour is made up at nine season rodeos that all must have at least $8,000 added in each event. Those rodeos include:

Wainwright Stampede

Williams Lake Stampede

Ponoka Stampede

Manitoba Stampede & Exhibition

Edmonton K-Days Rodeo

Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede

Strathmore Stampede

Dawson Creek Stampede

Armstrong IPE & Stampede

10 Spots

The top 10 in the Finning Pro Tour Standings will make it to the 2018 Finning Pro Tour Finals in Armstrong, British Columbia. The standings will include Armstrong’s tour rodeo so some competitors will literally have to wait until the night before the finals to see if they’ve qualified for the $6,000 added one-head finals on September 2.

7.3 Seconds

On three different occasions, cowboys have been able to hit the 7.3-second mark in the tie-down roping. Two out of those three have come from the 23-time world Champion Trevor Brazile.

Brazile was able to make his first 7.3-second run during the showdown of the Ponoka Stampede, then both he and Rhen Richard were 7.3 at the K-Days Rodeo in Edmonton to split the win at the world’s richest one-header.

4 More Performances

The Armstrong IPE & Stampede marks the last stop on the 2018 Finning Pro Tour and fans have just four more performances in Armstrong to watch before the top 10 head into the Finning Pro Tour Finals on the fifth day in Armstrong.

3.1 Seconds

Conditions will change and scorelines may differ from rodeo to rodeo, but the fastest steer wrestling run of the entire Finning Pro Tour season came from the rapid setup at the K-Days Rodeo in Edmonton, Alberta. The event was home to the fastest run of the entire PRCA and CPRA rodeo season in 2017, and the reigning world champion steer wrestler, Tyler Pearson, jumped out and was 3.1 seconds to win the 2018 event.

1 Finals

The Finning Pro Tour Finals is drawing near. September 2 will mark the final run and final ride competitors will take on the tour if they are able to get themselves within the top 10. The one-head finals has a $6,000 purse in itself, and offers CPRA competitors one more boost to their Canadian standings at a time of year where every single dollar counts.
