Fresh Face Friday: Billy Good
Fresh Face Friday: Billy Good
In our Fresh Face Friday series, rookie steer roper Billy Good discusses his goals for his upcoming first year in the PRCA.
As he makes a bid for PRCA Steer Roping Rookie of the Year in 2017, Billy Good might be new to the pro rodeo scene, but he is no stranger to the cowboy way of life. He was born and raised on a ranch close to Portales, New Mexico. Rodeo and cowboying runs in his family, and he can't imagine making a life any other way. Good is now married, and he and his wife, Darcy, make their home in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. When they are not going to rodeos or ropings, you can find them close to home riding horses and enjoying the cowboy way of life.
Wife: Darcy
Hometown: Wynnewood, OK
Education: Bachelor's degree from Eastern New Mexico University
Events: Steer roping, team roping, and calf roping.
Horses:
FloRodeo: Who has had the biggest influence in your life in the arena and out of the arena?
Good: My wife, dad, father-in-law, and brothers.
How do you set goals, and what are your short-term and long-term goals?
Short-term goals would be to win the rookie of the year this year in the steer roping. For my long-term goals, I would like to qualify for the NFSR and win the world one day.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given about rodeo and competing?
Rope your roping.
How did you start tripping?
Family tradition, a goal I had set at a young age. After I finished college I would study and work at and try to make the finals.
Tripping is not featured in a lot of rodeos. How does that affect how you enter rodeos and the rookie race?
It's good to know that I don't have to enter a 100 rodeos to be in the race. I train and shoe horses for a living, so I have to be home a lot.
What is your favorite rodeo or event you have ever had the opportunity to compete at?
Prairie Circuit Finals, Spicer Gripp Roping, Windy Ryon Roping.
What is your favorite hobby besides rodeo?
Hunting/Fishing.
What are your favorite sports teams?
Whoever wins the game.
Anything else you would like us to know or sponsors/people you would like to thank?
I would like to thank all my family and friends. My father-in-law, Doug Clark, for helping keep my horses tuned up. Also, thanks to Drew Clark Custom Saddles.
