For the second time in less than 48 hours, a new Canadian Finals Rodeo record was established in the saddle bronc riding.

The Canadian Professional Rodeo Association is pleased to announce that this year's Canadian Finals Rodeo, CFR 48, will transition the Breakaway Roping roster from six to 12 qualifiers.

43 ladies will descend upon Westerner Park today to compete in the first-ever Canadian Finals Breakaway competition. Hundreds of entries poured in for the new finals at qualifiers throughout Canada, but only the top made it through to the "big show".

The Boisjoli sisters from Langdon, Alberta, Canada are no exception to this rodeo family practice, and it shows when they hit the rodeo trail and come up against other competitors.

They've been battling it out for two days just for a chance to compete in the WCRA $500,000 Semi-Finals' progressive rounds. The best 16 in the team roping, breakaway roping, tie-down roping, and steer wrestling have risen to the top and are now preparing to do battle with the other 16 competitors that were exempt from the preliminary rounds.

What is breakaway roping? Better than it’s ever been, that’s what.

The World Champions Rodeo Alliance (WCRA) and Days of ’47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo announced yesterday that they will be adding breakaway roping to the rodeo’s high-paying roster of events this July. The five-day Olympics-style rodeo pays $50,000 to the winners and boast a $125,000 purse overall, and one breakaway roper will now have that very same opportunity to earn the big cash prize and gold medal alongside the seven other official rodeo events.

The World Champions Rodeo Alliance burst onto the scene last year with a brand-new concept that brought all rodeos into the “virtual” world. With the mantra to “develop and advance the sport of rodeo by aligning all levels of competition” this professional sport and entertainment entity not only creates new events, but hopes to bring the entirety of rodeo together with its qualifier system.

The Rank has already expanded its efforts to find the next generation of top rodeo athletes this year by adding all of the approximately 500 National Little Britches Rodeo Association season rodeos to its calculations, but we’re going even bigger now! The Rank is about finding the best, no matter where they rodeo, so FloRodeo wants to recognize youth competitors in both the National Junior High School and High School Rodeo Associations by tracking both the state/provincial finals and national finals results in 2019.
