For the second time in less than 48 hours, a new Canadian Finals Rodeo record was established in the saddle bronc riding.

For the first time since 2006, a bull rider will wear the coveted No. 1 back number at the Canadian Finals Rodeo.

It's that time of year.

He was the 2016 world champion, multi-time Calgary Stampede champion, he's won Houston, and just about any large rodeo you can think of, but he's been after the Canadian title since he was a kid and has finally checked his home country's highest honor off of his bucket list. Not only did Zeke Thurston win the 2019 Canadian Saddle Bronc Riding title, but he made sure of it by running away with the competition.

You all know we love crunching numbers, so now that the official list of competitors for the 2019 Canadian Finals Rodeo is in (see the entire list with back numbers HERE) we wanted to know just how much of a fight we’re about to see between the competitors in each of the events – starting with the roughstock competitors.

One of the most popular rodeo competitors going down the road today —the “Wild Man” Wade Sundell — is currently recovering in the Mission Hospital in San Juan Capistrano, California, after a major injury during the Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo. Sundell still has a long recovery ahead of him, but after spending over three weeks in the hospital, the reigning world champion bronc rider is on his way up.

“A Canadian title to me, would mean the world really,” Zeke Thurston said. “That’s one thing I haven’t quite slashed off the bucket list. I’m after it, for sure.”

A whopping EIGHT events were live streamed on FloRodeo this weekend from associations across the board. Two-time Canadian champion and three-time National Finals Rodeo saddle bronc riding qualifier Clay Elliott is now recovering from surgery after he sustained a cervical spinal fracture at the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo. During the May 3 performance, Elliott was bucked off of Frontier Rodeo’s Delta Force, landing on his head and fracturing his neck.

We always love looking back at predictions from the beginning of the season to see if they ring true by the end, and this article is a great example of that.
