We talk about the concept of the "rodeo family" a lot, but have you heard about the chuckwagon family tree yet? The third night of competition at the Strathmore Stampede was a perfect example of those family ties with driver Kurt Bensmiller battling it out against brother-in-law Vern Nolin in the final heat of racing action. After competing, the pair returned to their camps that were full of kids helping with chores and playing in the trailers, enjoying family time while they tended to their horses. Bensmiller may have won the night with his time a 1:14:12 to now also lead the aggregate heading into the final day, but the real win is competing in a sport that brings his family together. They may be serious about roping, but these jokesters seems to be having a blast in the Canadian rodeo season this year. Matt Sherwood - a world champion header and past CFR competitor - and Hunter Koch - a young up-and-comer went to the lead today at the 2019 Strathmore Stampede with their 5.5 second run on the second-last day of competition. CTA The pair sit in the No. 11 heading and No. 12 heeling spots in Canada, and are No. 17 in the PRCA heading, and 11 in the heeling. Winning at a rodeo like Strathmore with $20,000 added in each event could help make things a little easier for the two that work both sides of the border trying to make the CFR and NFR.

After winning his first Calgary Stampede title, Logan Gorst came in hot to the next WPCA tour stop, the Strathmore Stampede. It's hard to get this humble driver from Meadowlake, Saskatchewan, to brag, but he says if this team keeps doing exactly what they did to win Calgary and the first night at Strathmore, his confidence will remain high.

The road to the Canadian Finals Rodeo is a long one and no one knew that better than brothers Tuftin and Tyce Mcleod during the 2018 season. About half way through the season, the pair weren't doing that well in the standings, and Tuftin even admits that Tyce had to pay his fees for him, just to get by. But the pair of brothers from Saskatchewan prevailed and by the end of the season, they were able to sneak their way up the standings and make it to their first Canadian Finals Rodeo. The pair are in a much more comfortable spot this year at No. 6 and No. 7 in the heading and heeling standings respectively. After their run of 5.7 seconds to go to the lead at the Strathmore Stampede, things could be looking even better if it can hold throughout the weekend.
The dream of any young Canadian barrel racer growing up is to make the Canadian Finals Rodeo on a horse they trained themselves. CPRA barrel racer Bertina Olafson lived that dream last year with her first CFR qualification and is well on her way to doing it again in 2019. Olafson is already the No. 9 barrel racer in Canada and has a great chance to add to that placing after going to the lead at the Strathmore Stampede by three-tenths after slack and the first performance.
